I love making Raku items. The process is so dynamic and unpredictable and when the magic happens the results can be superb.

Full description

This is a well proportioned medium sized open dish. It is Raku fired and glazed with a stunning combination of white and turquoise random patterns. Some glazed has a fine crackle too. This dish is beautiful to look at, both inside and out, and can be used to display other items such as fruit. Unglazed areas are black.

It is about 8" in diameter and about 3" deep.

It is made from a coarse clay, and although it is food safe, it is unlikely to hold liquids.

It is hand made and thrown on a wheel, bisque fired to 700oC then glazed and raku fired.

Raku originated as a Japanese pottery technique and involves quickly heating the pots to red heat and then cooling it quickly in different ways, giving crazing and unpredictable results with the glaze colour.
