Item details

Design: A set of rare antique trade beads and handmade brass beads from Ghana made into a necklace and bracelet for a man or a woman with a larger wrist.

History: The red and white beads are very old trade beads, most probably made in or around Venice between 1880 and 1920.Like all of us old travellers, they are starting to show signs of age so you will see some minor scuffs and chips. Old trade beads are becoming increasingly hard to find.

These have been strung with some Ghanaian beads made from recycled brass using the 'lost wax' method which means each is made from a one-off mould and so is quite unique.

Fastening: The necklace is finished with a handmade brass hook and rings, also from Ghana.

I love these old trade beads. They bring so much history with them. I was lucky enough to find some narrow beads which match the larger ones and the modern brass beads look as though they were made for them.
