After trying many felting pads/surfaces and not being happy with them, i started to experiment. I filled a calico jute bag with lots of different fillers and the rice worked perfectly! The surface moulds to your lap and due to the thickness there is no chance of the needle going right the way through.
The first pad i made is now 2 years old and still going strong!

Handmade Felting pad.
made from eco friendly hessian and calico.
These pads are amazing , no more bits of foam stuck to your work and due to a long life span, these pads are a great investment.
a drawstring on side lets you fill the pad with rice and seal. Working on a rice filled pad gives a more stable work surface that contours around whatever it is placed on ( great when working on your lap ) and doesnt lose its depth over time.
When working on a rice pad remember to move your work regularly as not to stick to the pad. to clean off any wool use a damp rubber glove.
