If so, this stylish handmade bag is for you.

Cut from the fabric of a man’s jacket, the bag has a plain, stone-coloured exterior, with a lightly ribbed texture.

Adding interest, and a splash of colour is the lining; a beautiful vintage-rose design on a navy blue background. The bag closes using a matching pink zipper.

There are three pockets inside the bag; two generous slip pockets on one side and a double welt pocket on the other.

I put the button panels to good use and created handles which add a touch of originality. It is a medium-textured bag which keeps its shape, though not rigid.

The Jacket Bag is the perfect accessory for women who like individuality and uniqueness.

Although my first love is sewing clothes, I chose to broaden my skills by repurposing garments and fabrics which are no longer in use, because, like my fellow sewists, I have become increasingly conscious of the planet and the impact the clothing industry is having on fauna and flora.

This cotton jacket was the blandest item of clothing I had ever seen, so I decided to repurpose it and add a dash of colour at the same time.

After planning how to make the most of material, cutting up the jacket, to create the bag, was both fun and exciting. Incorporating the button-up front as handles, not only gives the bag a simple and cute touch, it also fed my creativity.
 
Now I have the bug; repurposing unwanted fabrics of various types and giving them a new life. 

Watch out if you see me standing behind you in a queue; you might discover a bag-shaped hole in the back of your top. ;-)
