I wanted to make a high quality moon globe that had a “real” three dimensional raised relief surface, I also wanted it to be scientifically accurate and include feature names… and look good!
3D printed globes were available but this process didn’t produce the surface quality I was looking for. So, I developed a new technique which involves machining the Moons topography in aluminium (with a resolution the width of a human hair) and creating the globe with layers of metal powder and resin.
This produced the highly detailed and accurate lunar surface I was looking for. Surface toning and feature names were then added by hand to produce the finished globe.
This globe listing also includes a specially designed aluminium stand weighing 2.5kg and a brass nameplate which includes the the makers name, date and globe number.

Highly detailed raised relief globe showing surface features in three dimensions. Created using NASA Digital Elevation Model data.
Each globe is handmade. Several layers of metal powder and resin are built up to form the globes shell before hand toning and finishing which includes adding crater and feature names. A brass dividing ring separates north and south hemispheres.
Also included is a machined solid aluminium base with a brass makers nameplate which includes globe number and year of manufacture. Customised nameplates are also available for gifts or personalising the globe.
At present dispatch time is 1 week.
Each globe is individually numbered – 30cm Moon globe No 034 is presently available.
