A really nice piece of wood I have had for a long time, I fancied a challenge so decided to have a go a turning it. I had to make a special jig to fit the underside so I could mount it to the Lathe which worked well. The bowl would make a lovely decoration for someones home, it sits at a slight angle due to the natural underside but this works really well to tilt the piece so it can be seen.

Red Mallee burr bowl, 255 x 230 x 60mm with a polished finish.
A beautiful Red Mallee burr bowl with a natural edge and underside, natural processes in the tree create a series of small shoots resulting in a very complex grain pattern, in Red Mallee this appear as swirls of almost flame like shapes and colours. This bowl with its natural underside sits at an angle which made it very difficult to turn but does show off the cut upper side nicely.
