Welcome to Totally Polychromatic.

This listing is for a hand made pendant made from copper. Patterned each side with a dremel, oxidized and hand stamped with the words "Kia ora" (hello) and "Ka Pai" (good). The hand stamped words are hidden the oxidization so from a slight distance you will not see them at all so it's like you own personal little message or reminder. The stone is New Zealand Greenstone also known in the Maori tongue as Pounamu. It's hung on a hand braided waxed polyester cord for durability and finished with a strawberry quartz toggle.

I started learning to carve in Hokitika while backpacking New Zealand. It was the one thing I was desperate to do. It took a while to find a teacher that would teach a woman, but I got there in the end. I have been trying to get all the equipment together ever since to keep going.

I required the stone from my now regular dealer and fellow carver based in the Waikato discrict of New Zealand, he sells on the pieces of stone he is unable to use to keep up the crafters recycled tradions I have recycled/upcycled these off cuts to give them new life and be used again.

This stone is only sourced in one place in New Zealand which is Hokitika on the South island. The main river source is owned and looked after by a Moari tribe and any money made from the jade when purchased by the carver would of gone back to the tribe and the local community.

This was my first attempt at mixed girls my two skill sets of metal smithing and stone carving. I love the Māori culture and the tribal designs that are so symbolic to New Zealand that features so significantly with my work. I have an affinity with Pounamu, it's such an amazing stone to work with and significant due to its rarity, the colour style it produces and the patterned grains especially as it was the first type of stone I had ever worked with.
