I’m so proud of the new St Peter’s Square, I had to celebrate with a picture!

Full description

A celebration of the impressive new St Peter’s Square, Manchester, that has emerged after redevelopment. A new metrolink station has been opened and the area has been pedestrianised.

This square features some of Manchester’s most iconic buildings - Manchester Town Hall, Manchester Town Hall Extension, Manchester Central Library and the flamboyant Midland Hotel, built to serve the former adjacent railway station. The building styles range from Victorian neo-gothic, through to neo-classical, gothic revival and Edwardian baroque. Two new office blocks, St Peters Square One and St Peters Square Two, now complete the square.

Within the square sits the Manchester Cenotaph (First World War memorial), the stone cross commemorating the former St Peters Church, the Emmeline Pankhurst statue (unveiled in 2018) and the new Metrolink station. And lots more Foxglove trees. The area is also adjacent to the former site of St Peter’s Field, where the infamous Peterloo Massacre took place in 1819.
