Item details

Hand embroidered houseplant wall hanging. I have embroidered a fern, ivy and tradescantia onto painted calico, and then stitched the calico onto a further two layers to provide weight and a backing.

The plants are in hanging baskets and remind me of 1970's plants in containers with macrame supports! I've tied white string/round a piece of painted dowelling to hang the embroidery.
Every part of the hanging is hand stitched, including a double border and double blanket stitch border around the edges.
I like the contrast of the white/cream background and green plants.
A lovely gift for a plant lover!

I love houseplants, who doesn't? I particularly like the '70s look with macrame hangers. I plan to learn at least the basics of macrame and to try this out in my work.

I also love the green and white combination, of anything. These two loves inspired this piece of work.
And it was made over the best part of a year, in between other work and home commitments.
It is a one off, original piece of work.
