There’s something about Blackthorn. I love its announcement of spring, it’s not the first time I’ve made homage to it in print. It's abundant & thick with blossom in Cornwall at this time of year
I keep revisiting it, intending to pay attention to the blossom contrasting against the thorn (which it does, mostly, before the leaf appears) ...only to be drawn in by the blossom, stamen & new leaf instead!
I adore ‘line’ describing shape when drawing. So in this print, the ‘black’ exists in the lines which describe the blossom.
I'll draw, cut & print Blackthorn Blossom with its thorn eventually.....

There’s something about Blackthorn. I love its announcement of spring. Our Cornish hedges are thick with its abundant blossom at this time of year...
In circular form, three stages of the Life of Blossom represents Eternal Renewal. I've enjoyed giving this framed as a wedding gift.
This image is printed from linocut blocks, built & cut by me using traditional methods. Each block is inked by hand, then HandPulled on my ancient Albion Press
Each print is sequentially numbered, titled and signed in pencil, in the traditional convention. The edition run total is only 100, achieved in smaller editions of 10 at each printmaking.

It's very hard to convey, in a photograph, the truly beautiful physical quality of the ink & vibrant colour on this gorgeously soft-to-touch paper!
