Kanzashi is a lovely Japanese art form, somewhat like origami, but done with fabric, generally silk. I have adapted it somewhat to make cotton flowers which I attach to stretchy headbands. The Kanzashi flower I have sewn to this bright pink one is mauve, with a little turquoise, and the bead in the centre has a sheen like petrol on a puddle. This band fits anyone, from a toddler to an adult. Unstretched it measures 16" in circumference, and up to 24" stretched.
I discovered Kanzashi on the internet some years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed using my cotton scraps left from making pinnies to create flowers. Wondering what to do with the results I settled on headbands, hairbands and hair slides. I have sold many at Craft Fairs. I thought I'd see what happens on Folksy!
