Welcome to Sylvie's Sewing Room!
My textile pictures and brooches are all hand stitched using a free-style combination of stitches that I call "drawing with threads".
I hope you enjoy looking...
Hand-stitched textile fabric picture of a dragonfly.
Jewelled flying warriors - despite having see-through wings, dragonflies seem fierce and armoured.
My little emroidered picture features an emperor dragonfly. The shiny, glass-like wings are represented with silver thread, and the gleaming body with bright colours. I've used little pieces of narrow ribbons to represent the reeds that the dragonfly rests on.
Did you know that a dragonfly rests with its wings open, whereas a damselfly rests with its wings folded back along its body?
The finished piece is protected behind glass in an oak frame ready for display. The artwork is just over 3.5 x 3.5cms and the frame is about 12.5 x12.5cms.
I've photographed it in natural light without the glass, to show it as clearly as I can, however I'm sure you know that screens and monitors vary.
A lovely gift for a nature lover or gardener.
Eye-catching, metallic flying jewels - how could these amazing creatures fail to inspire!
