Item details

My “Found and Treasured” mixed media sculptures began with a gift - a tiny old red pillbox filled with miniature seashells and a scrap of paper saying “Red Sea”, written in old-fashioned script. It felt precious and I began wondering what other found treasures might be nestling in other old boxes, waiting to be rediscovered.

Not longer afterwards, I was invited to spend a day with a curator from the Natural History Museum, examining specimens and learning about the people that had collected them. She showed me similar old boxes, which had once held finds in the Museum's collection - some had been purpose-made, while others were simply boxes and tins from home.

And so, my Found and Treasured story boxes were born - created by combining exquisite hand modelled porcelain ‘finds’ with found objects and ephemera, nestled in antique, vintage & retro containers. Each one tells its own imagined story of a place and time when something beautiful was found... and treasured.
