My mother collected sewing (and knitting) patterns. Mum's collection started before I was born (before the Cold War! that's all you're getting from me about my age!). All my clothes were made by her when I was young, including my underwear! She passed on her love of sewing, knitting and all kinds of crafting, to me in my genes, I suppose because, as soon as I was old enough, I started collecting my own 'vintage treasures' to add to mum’s accumulation, scouring charity shops and boot sales for them.

Full description

Bust: 34”-42” bust (86.5-107cms)

Waist: 26”-34” (66-86.5cms)

Hip: 38”-46” (96.5-117cms)

This is a vintage paper pattern. It has never been used, is complete, uncut & unmarked.

There is no date on this pattern, but my memory tells me it’s probably very early 1960’s. (Yes, I can remember back that far, but I can’t remember what I had for dinner last Tuesday!)

Now, not only is there no date, there is no recognisable sizing to the pattern either. Most patterns have markings for the different sizing’s, this has NOTHING! It has markings for darts etc., but there are no differential markings for each size. That’s why I would suggest that:

THIS PATTERN IS ONLY SUITABLE TO SEASONED AND EXPERT DRESS-MAKERS.

I’ve been sewing all my life, but even I would not attempt this one. The instructions state that, ‘It is advisable to try pattern against figure and make any necessary adjustments before cutting material’.

Once made, this would be a truly elegant suit, very forgiving in its coverage. I’d love to see it made up…..
