Celtic hook shaped wooden pendant.made from a piece of petrified English bog oak that 're emerged from a peat marsh in Lakeland Cumbria after being submerged for at least 1000 years. The timber has never been officially carbon dated but has become tottaly jet black,a process that takes well over 1000years before the oak is completly impregnated and stained by the dark peaty waters of a marsh.
Once carved it has been sanded to a smooth polished finish before a beeswax has been rubbed into the wood to bring out the ancient grain in the timber and has been hung on a adjustable waxed cotton thong and measures 5x2cm
I have been carving wood and making jewellary for over 20 years now and although I like to think my own skill makes this a beautiful unique item,it's the millennium or so it has spent resting under the ground that makes it truly remarkable.
