A little wall plaque inspired by Spurn, East Yorkshire. I have designed and made this using traditional metal craft techniques. I have used silver, copper and brass, which I have pierced out with my jewellers saw, soldered and stamped/hand engraved, before oxidizing the finished metal piece. It is mounted on oak using copper wire with Spurn Point hand stamped into brass below. I have painted the oak and varnished it for protection.
Measuring 70mm x 85mm (10mm depth).
I have visited Spurn many times. It's a beautiful, wild and peaceful place, with a lovely lighthouse (a visit to the lighthouse is worth it for the beautiful views from the top). It's a great place to escape!
This little wall plaque has a patina reflecting how I am drawn to metal that appears aged and weathered, changed by the elements. The patina also helps create contrast for pictorial pieces.
