This work is an enamelled piece of copper with a unique effect produced on the surface with silver leaf applied at high temperature. The base layers of enamel are applied a colour at a time and then when the silver leaf is applied it is broken apart into a stunning design by the movement of the molten enamel underneath. The enamelled copper piece is fired multiple times in a kiln at temperatures over 800C to produce the finished effect.

The enamelled copper panel is mounted onto an mdf board and finished with a fixing on the back so this can be hung on the wall.

The enamelled copper panel is 7.5cm by 7.5cm.

The mdf board is 12cm by 12cm and is water resistant mdf making it suitable to hang in a bathroom or toilet as well as any other indoor room. The board has been painted white.

Creating enamelled designs on copper is an exciting process as it involves working with high temperatures in a kiln and the colours change dramatically in front of you as you heat and cool the piece. The pattern that is created by the application of the silver leaf to the enamelled surface is not totally predictable which gives an element of surprise to the finished piece which is always unique.
