These embroidered sunflowers would make a lovely gift or keepsake to mark a wedding anniversary, birthday or special occasion. They have been hand stitched onto handmade silk paper and then the finished piece has been placed within a a shabby chic box frame.
I recreate this sunflower scene in other art works however because each piece is handmade there are always variations in the background makeup and the positioning and shape of the sunflowers.
It takes about thirty minutes to create the silk paper. The embroidery work takes approximately just around four hours to finish.

Every year I have to grow sunflowers in the garden, often with varying results. However they always end up getting sketched. I just couldn't be without sunflowers.
I enjoy working with different fibres and use the colours and textures of the natural environment to inform my making of the silk paper. The textile is well-padded with a variety of different colours of merino wool, silk fibres and a sprinkling of glistening angelina.
