Item details

This is a hand made ceramic incense holder. It has five pierced holes to hold up to five individual incense sticks while they burn down and release their scent. It is approximately 25 mm high and 95 mm wide. A simple and understated example of the potter's craft glazed in off-white. Thrown on the potter's wheel by an experienced professional potter in Lincoln UK.

The five holes have been made in the same pattern as dots on a dice. The number five is regarded as auspicious being the number of planets which can be seen with the naked eye.

The incense holder was inspired by incense sticks brought back from a recent holiday to Japan. and by lovely white porcelain I saw there.+ The holder looks fabulous while the incense sticks burn down. The tray helps collect the ash left from the burning sticks. Relax by just watching the smoke from the incense drift upwards!
