The House for an Art Lover was built between 1989 and 1996 in Glasgow's Bellahouston Park, based on a 1901 design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife and collaborator Margaret MacDonald. The idea to actually construct the house was the brainchild of Graham Roxburgh, a Glasgow civil engineer who had done refurbishment work on other Mackintosh interiors. The building provides a showcase for some of Mackintosh's furnishings, an excellent restaurant and provides a unique venue for weddings and other events.
I've always loved this building, having been to several weddings there, and being a frequent visitor to the park with my family and dog. Building any Mackintosh building in Lego presents challenges because of his use of curves. I used hinge plates to recreate the bowed windows and small transparent bricks to represent the heavily mullioned windows that characterise Mackintosh's designs.

House for an Art Lover is one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's most popular buildings, located in Bellahouston Park in the heart of Glasgow's Southside, and often used as a spectacular wedding venue. I was recently asked to build a model of the frontage, and developed this vista of the building as part of this commission.
Although the frontage is not symmetrical, I wanted to recreate a vista that would look stylish and balanced within the 9 inch square white frame. The model shows part of the frontage made up of around 300 lego pieces. It is four studs deep in the box frame, allowing a three dimensional impression of the balcony and bowed windows which are charactersitic of this building.
