This cute small pendant features a cabochon of rare Dagenham agate (aka fordite) which is bezel set in sterling silver. The fordite has a swirly pattern in red, blue and sparkly silver on the front and a pattern of concentric ovals on the back, the pendant is reversible but will sit better the 'correct' way round due to the doming on the fordite.
So what's fordite and what's it got to do with Dagenham? Fordite is an accumulation of many layers of cured car paint that built up in the old spray booths, this particular piece came from Ford's factory in Dagenham probably in the early 80's before they switched to more efficient (and safer for the workers) painting methods. Fordite from UK factories is much rarer that the material from the American plants, I have a very limited amount left and doubt I'll be able to get any more so if you are a fan of the old 80's escorts and capris I'd get some of this motoring history whilst you still can.
Measures just over 1 in long (including bail) by bit over 1/2 in wide (30mm by 15mm), comes complete with a sterling silver snake chain in a gift box.
