I am selling all coloured linen threads in small pieces. Some amounts are listed and quick to buy, but I am happy to list a custom amount for you. - Just get in touch!
I never send out a random replacement in the rare case that something you ordered is out of stock. I will always try to get in touch with you, to hear whether you wish to cancel or change your order.
** German Customers: Aufgrund des in 2019 in Kraft getretenen Verpackungsgesetzes kann ich Waren leider nicht mehr an Adressen in Deutschland versenden!**
This listing is for one 50g spool of NeL 18/3 German linen thread from Gruschwitz. The thread has a diameter of about 0.6mm and one spool holds about 160m of thread.
Linen thread is used for a wide variety of traditional crafts, essentially it can be found everywhere where a strong, natural fibre is needed: for puppetmaking, tent making, all kinds of leather work and of course for bookbinding.
3-ply is one of the standard thicknesses used for bookbinding and especially for bindings with an exposed spine such as Coptic bindings.
This thread has been calendered, which means it has been pressed really hard such that the surface became hard and smooth. This makes it possible to use this thread - with some experience and by constantly keeping it under tension - without waxing it first.
But waxing by hand (or machine) is possible and recommended for most applications.
The last image shows one of my book where I used the thread, the book is not part of this listing.
STOCKING information / COLOUR STOCKS:
please note, black is currently out of stock
This German thread is calendered which gives it a nice, shiny surface without the use of wax.
