Let Glasgow Flourish

Signed, stamped, hand titled, limited edition, mounted, Giclee print of original illustration by Mark McPhelim.

/495

Inspired by Glasgow’s official coat of arms which incorporates emblems and symbols associated with the city’s patron Saint, Kentigern (more widely known as Mungo).

Here is the bird that never flew

Here is the tree that never grew

Here is the bell that never rang

Here is the fish that never swam.

My illustration includes some of the background to the coat of arm’s contents, including the healing hands of St Mungo and a ring bearing fish! Look closely and you will see more. Some of Glasgow’s famous and ancient architecture has been included too.

Illustrated to achieve a linocut effect, the grooves spiral to ever decreasing circles, creating movement and connection to the flying bird, the blooming tree, the sounding bell and the darting fish.

I hope you’ll enjoy the intricacy and lasting detail of this fresh approach to Glasgow’s famous motto!
