Blackthorn or May blossom explodes out of our cornish hedges in West Cornwall announcing the arrival of Spring. It usually appears just before the trees regain their leaves & is a signal for the rest of the flora to start colouring the countryside.
I love how the white blossom contrasts against its dark thorn which is what I had in mind when I started this image. But I also love the delicate pink stamens which become more pink as the blossom matures & eventually blows over.
So this image became a metaphor for Spring (it was a toss-up whether to name it Spring or May). With a bit of 'Printmaker's License' - 3 stages of the Life of Blossom, against the colour of new leaves of spring, with vibrant stamen because I love their colour so much....

May - or Blackthorn - Spring's first flush
White petalled flowers on a Spring green blended background with a subtle pink to yellow stamen which actually look more golden yellow - tho the blended colour of the stamen add to the floral vibrance as if being lit by a bright sun kissing winter good bye!
Hand-printed linocut card, with info on the back hand-set in old letterpress, hand inked & printed on my ancient Press.
:: 250gsm Specialist Artist Paper hand torn to size

:: Recycled Envelope size is 95mm - 122mm
:: Sealed into a compostable cornstarch clear-bag
:: Inside is blank for you to write your own personal message
:: Cards will be sent carefully packed in a repurposed board protected, recycled package
It's very hard to convey, in a photograph, the truly beautiful physical quality of the ink & it's colour on this gorgeously soft-to-touch paper - very tactile!
The colours are a spring green blend and a pink to yellow appearing more yellow orange - The photos disguise the soft matt quality of the paper & ink
Cards will vary slightly due to the nature of hand production making each card unique & original
