An amazing baby's blanket that is from the books of crochet history; one in the same style that could have been used by your own mum or grandma.
This baby's blanket was made using on an original c.1950's crochet pattern printed in a women's magazine of the time, (unfortunately exact date and source have been removed from the clipping by original owner). My version of the blanket is suitable for a newborn baby upwards.
The pattern is of alternate row of X stitches then a row of treble straight stitches. I have not come across this particular way of making a 'X' stitch before in any pattern. I enjoyed learning how to construct it uniformly and then apply successfully in this lovely blanket. The blanket has then been edged in a contrasting colour in a bobble style stitch which I also have had to learn how to do as this is not a feature of current modern crochet patterns. Instead of using traditional pastel baby shades, I settled upon the amazing bolder shades from Patons Fab UK palette. The yarn has given great stitch definition, a matt finish that is soft to the touch, hard wearing and importantly machine washable.
