Item details

Original wood engraving print from boxwood block featuring a male lion's head. I called it Aslan because that is what he reminded me of. Engraved on a slice of natural boxwood branch, the print is approx 2 1/4 " wide by 1 3/4 " high. It has been printed on good quality Japanese paper using a 100 year old Model 1 platen press & Lawrence ink. It is signed and titled in pencil.
Comes with a plain paper circular apeture mount to fit a 4" x 4" frame. Example in photos. Frame not included in purchase but it is a standard size.

Whilst I strive for consistency, each print is an original, there may be slight variations from print to print.

I know lions are not considered naturally occuring in Dorset, but we have a history of big cat sightings, so, who knows !!

My local recycling centre know I am always hunting for all things printing, but even I was suprised when they produced a boxwood log that had come out of an old parrot cage!. It was so tough a carpenter friend cut it into sections and I finished it. The engraving had to work around the flaws in the wood as they would not hold up to the printing pressure. It started as any lion but, when finished, the consensus was that he was called Aslan.
