I bought an antique print from a charity shop over 18 years ago, then some more, but wondered, how were they made ?
The research led to a fascination with the history and techniques used in printmaking
That in turn led to collecting and restoring printing presses I found at car boot sales, antique shops and even the local tip, so the next logical step had to be to learn to use them and print my own designs. Where a piece of equipment wasn't available I looked for alternatives, adapting the new to suit the old.
Printmaking makes you see things in a different way, everything is reversed , it also focuses you on the smallest of marks through a magnifying lamp.
When I need to straighten my back and get back out in the world, it is usually a long walk with my westie, out into the beautiful countryside and coastline of Dorset, out where inspiration is all around you.
