Sometimes chance can be a beautiful thing! I had the idea for this ultra long beach style Mermaid necklace when I accidentally pulled a strand of dyed turquoise blue nugget pearls and tumbled rough rainbow fluorite out of my box of beads together. The colours complement each other so magically I had to use them together. A handful of high quality Czech crystal glass beads with a silvered side to them help to fire extra light through the fluorite, making it sparkle and enhancing the bright purples and teal greens. I then added a shell clasp, hand cast from recycled sterling silver to complete the picture. This necklace is strung on strong beading wire, owing to the nature of the rainbow fluorite chunks, and measures 640 mm or 25" in length. This length is perfect for wearing over a high necked top or collared blouse, but could easily be wrapped three times around the wrist for a bohemian stacked bracelet.
It comes carefully packaged in a black gift box, fastened with a satin bow.
Rainbow Fluorite has a long history in jewellery making, having been frequently been used by the Romans. This stone comes with bands of intense amethyst purple, teal greens, glassy aquamarines and pale blue. These colours remind me of a summer sea, and the pebble like quality of the beads made them perfect for a long mermaid style necklace.
