This magpie was one of twelve watercolour studies of common garden birds I made at the end of last year.
I hope I've managed to capture a little bit of the swaggering character of this bird!

In December last year, I made a series of bird studies in watercolour (see photo). I designed a calendar as a gift for family and friends using the paintings. I decided to use the same paintings for these notecards.
The magpie (not everyone's favourite British bird, but very common in my garden) is featured on a 300 gsm square card (148 mm x 148 mm), with its name and Latin name alongside. I tried to capture the magpie's spectacular iridescent colours - a mix of blues, greens and purples, depending on the light. The original painting was made on Saunders Waterford paper, which gives a lovely soft texture to the image.
Your card, and a white laid envelope, will be carefully packaged in a cello bag and posted to you in a sturdy board back mailer.
