To make this dish I built up several layers of clear enamel on the copper shape. I then fired a layer of turquoise enamel over the clear. In some lights the copper beneath may glimmer in tones of golden brown through the clear and the turquoise layers. I then added scattered piles of white enamel over which I sprinkled pink, purple, and gold transparent enamel. Transparent enamels show their colour when they are fired over white enamel. Where the gold and the purple enamel is not over white they have added a green and a blue tint to the turquoise. When the dish was in the kiln, at red hot I drew through the surface with a steel point to generate the pattern. It is a more contrived pattern than you see on much of my work but still has its random elements and is certainly unique.
The dish measures 82mm in diameter and is 8mm deep at its centre. As the photographs show, it has warped to some extent. This in no way detracts from its utility. It will serve as a dressing table tray or a table centre decoration or for any other decorative purpose. There will never be another the same.
For UK delivery I use Royal Mail, first class, signed for; for European delivery, international signed for. If you prefer another delivery service please contact me before placing your order.
