When I moved home several years ago, a friend sent me a house warming gift of a wooden spoon. Attached to the handle was a Christmas star decoration and a card that read "Make a Christmas wish as you stir your dish." I didn't use the spoon for years as I didn't want to remove the tag and for the spoon to become just another kitchen utensil. It was only once I took up pyrography that the idea came to me to burn the message into the spoon to permanently mark it as the gifted spoon whilst also allowing it to be put to useful service in my kitchen. Now whenever I use it I'm reminded of my good friend and as it acquires the patina of use I can remember all the meals I've made for family and friends with it.
