Above my house on the island is a steep sided hill that was once the site of a hill fort. From the top I can see east and west for miles along the south coast, south, far out to sea towards Alderney and France, and north... north takes me to the Ridgeway, an extraordinary place, littered with remnants of the earliest occupations of man in this island of Britain, and said, by the archaeologists and pre-historians, to be every bit as startling and astonishing as Stonehenge. The Ridgeway is a ridge which bears an astonishing number of henges, burial mounds and other evidence of human occupation going back at least 7,500 years, documenting human endeavour right up to the present day. From the top of the Ridgeway the view north looks deep into Britain and those monuments, these hills, this place, speaks to me.

In texturing this piece, quite by accident, I noticed after it was finished that there was a face staring back at me - one of the Green Folk!
