Full description

This necklace features a bezel set cabochon of Indian paint stone which hangs from a strand of agate and mookaite beads. The rhomboid cabochon of Indian paint stone has a muted colour palette of bitter chocolate browns, mustard yellows and deep brick red and has been bezel set in sterling silver, it has a soft satin sheen rather than a high gloss shine. The colours and texture are picked up in the beaded necklace of matte banded agate and polished mookaite beads all of which are individually rosary linked on sterling silver wire and finished with a silver bolt ring clasp. The pendant can be removed from the bead strand so either part can be worn on their own.

Indian paint stone is originates from Death Valley hence its alternative names of Death Valley Paint stone or Navajo blanket stone, the area where it was collected from is now off limits, I think this would make a lovely gift for someone who has enjoyed exploring this area of California as a reminder of their trip. The patterns are caused by water rich in iron or manganese seeping in through cracks in the rock and the water then evaporating leaving behind the metal rich veins.

Pendant measures approx 1 1/2 inches (excluding bail) by 1 1/8 inches (36mm by 29mm), the beaded necklace is approx 18 inches. Comes in a gift box.
