This print is a combination of silk screen printing and linocut - the background was created using silk screen techniques and the crow and landscape with linocut. It is an original print inspired by my surroundings in Norfolk. It is from a limited edition of 50 and is signed at the bottom of the print. Print measurements are 25.5cm x 39.5cm and paper size is 35cm x 50cm. This is a unique design and is provided unmounted and unframed. The linocut approach involves cutting a design on the surface of a lino block and can take a considerable length of time. Proofs are then made before the final design is finished. Printing ink is rolled onto the surface of the lino and pressure is provided by a relief printing press transferring the image to a sheet of printing paper. It is only possible to make one print at a time and each print is therefore unique and may have slight variations. Each linocut makes a truly one-off gift, as it is presented on a stiff backing board and in a cellophane sleeve. The back of the board has a write up about the artist and the linocut process.

Rooks and crows have always fascinated me. I have lived near rookeries and the sight of a multitude of rooks flying off from a rookery or circling in the sky above the rookery is very beautiful. In the winter landscape of Norfolk with so many fields and open blue skies the rook iis an important and striking bird who stays all winter long. A rook's nest can be quite gigantic - sometimes 2 or 3 ft. across and is painstakingly constructed with fairly substantial sized twigs compared to the smaller birds. As with all the other birds and animals I have used as inspiration for printmaking I have loved studying the rook up closely in order to capture its character and sense of movement. I hope that I have achieved this with this print.
