Item details

Hand Carved from a piece of Cherry. The tree was pruned by a Yorkshire Tree Surgeon. Cherry has a really rich colour and grain and is a gorgeous wood to work with. The carving process used an axe, an adze, a knife and a hook knife. The spoon has been burnished and oiled after being left with a faceted knife finish. A knife finish requires a great deal of skill to achieve but leaves a more durable surface than sanding. The spoon has also been designed to be ergonomic in its use and to feel comfortable in the mouth. The woods inherent qualities have been worked with, rather than against to produce strength, durability and form. A truly tactile and beautiful object to use every day that tells a story of the wood and of its creation. This spoon would be suited to more liquid type foodstuffs.
