It is so rare to find something completely and utterly unique in the world, but that is precisely what this natural raw Australian Boulder Opal is. A chestnut coloured ironstone, with a brilliant green vein of iridescent crystaline opal coiling around it from the front to the back, with added flashes of blue and violet at the back of the stone. The only treatment this stone has been given is to be polished and drilled; apart from that it is entirely natural. In order to enhance this individual stone I created a minimalist textured sterling silver bail, using a process called reticulation. This creates a molten, sparkling texture on the surface of the silver, not unlike the natural contours of stone, and is just right for a raw, natural opal. I have stamped the inside of the bail .925 to signify sterling silver. This pendant including the bail measures 12 mm or 1/2" in length and hangs from a 450 mm 17 3/4" sterling silver chain. My final photograph shows the pendant with a vintage lipstick case, measuring 3" in length, for scale. Opal is the birthstone for October.
This unique natural opal pendant is supplied carefully packaged in a gift box with a satin bow.
