A striking necklace entirely hand made by me using my own polymer clay beads.
'Zara' has been made using a colour palette of black, silver, white and orange in a 'mokume gane' technique pattern. This pattern is achieved by layering the different colour sheets together to make a multi-coloured stack. Patterns are imprinted into the stack which is then thinly sliced to bring out the imprinted pattern of colours in veneers. The veneers are used to cover the bead surface. Each bead is unique but has a pattern with the same elements.
The finished bead is baked, sanded to a smooth finish and then buffed to a high natural shine. The beads have been strung on a black buna type cord, with o rings used as spacers between the beads. The clasp is polymer clay with a strong imbedded magnet.
The finished length of the necklace is just under 20" and the central bead drops 2.5" below the cord.
