Casserole cosies are very popular in the USA, for carrying hot items to a potluck supper, but not so common in the UK. I made myself one, and discovered that I preferred it to oven gloves for removing hot dishes from the oven. Ultrabright has excellent heat-resisting properties, but they recommend adding a layer of polyester or cotton batting if it is to be protecting your hands from heat.
I saw the owl fabric and couldn't resist buying some. For some of the borders I used strips of my vintage Laura Ashley fabric, for others and for the lining I used green sheeting.

Keep a casserole or a batch of baked potatoes pipng hot with this quilted cosy showing a group of cute owls and complete with carrrying loop. It doubles as a heat-proof cloth for lifting things from the oven, and can hang decoratively when not in use. Folds flat for storage. It is made of cotton and polycotton, and padded with a layer of Insul-Bright and another of quilt batting, and backed with dark green cotton. It is 20 inches(50cm) square and fits a casserole up to about 9 inches (22cm) across and 4 1/2 inches (12cm) high.
To use, stand the hot casserole in the centre of the cosy and thread the long loop through the four small corner loops. See the photographs.
Wash at 30 or 40 degrees, spin dry and tumble-dry.
NOTE - Do not use in the microwave - the Insul-Bright heatproof wadding contains metal fibres as well as polyester and could cause arcing.
