A creation that tens and tens of hours went into. This dress is made of hand dyed doilies as a skirt, with gibbous drapes of velvet underneath fixed to a fitted velvet and embroidered top. The fastenings are poppers. It is a size 8 and much more vibrant and rich in its Cadbury purple colour than the photos can convey. The hues of pink, purple and magenta in the skirt part alone make it one of my best works of 'wearable art'!
NB: please handwash separately a time or two to ensure none of the dye is going to come out.
So, I've been collecting doilies for as long as I can remember and was desperate to do something with them but not anything cream. I LOVE the colour purple and had an old Rapp fairtrade duster top that needed to be more loved. So I dyed my doilies and fitted the duster top. Because the doilies are all slightly different in fabric they took up the dye to different extents and all these beautiful hues of purple and pink came out. This was also my first time using poppers - very satisfying to hammer them in place and so much quicker than buttons!
Of course, it's one of a kind. I doubt I'd have the luck in the dying twice.
