I have made this box from recycled wood in my workshop and have fitted good quality brass hinges and catch.
I have decorated it using a technique called marbling. This imparts a unique coloured pattern on the wood using inks and paints yet still allows the grain of the wood to show through. It is then sealed with a hard wearing varnish to protect it.
Inside the box is partially lined with black baize with soft tabs underneath to protect any polished surfaces.

I wanted to utilise the technique of marbling to decorate this box and at the same time allow the wood grain to still show through.
I also wanted to create an alternative to the more traditional technique of marquetry I have used on my other boxes.
