A unique handmade piece of art, sewn from found objects (objet trouve) with free UK 'Signed For' delivery.

It is not a print or copy, it is the original piece, making it a one-off. Not another the same.

Hand stitched from museum leaflets and unreadable vintage books. Everything used in its making was destined for the bin.

Due to the fact that I am not happy with the stitch at Marlene's bottom right (you cannot unpick when sewing on paper) I am listing at a reduced price. Close-up of said stitch above, in third image.

Each square depicts a mother. As well as others, you can see: Marlene Dietrich, Olga Picasso, Judy Garland, Esther Williams, Twiggy, Princess Margaret, Sarah Forbes Bonetta, Naomi James, Barbra Streisand, Artemisia Gentileschi, Mary Beale, Joan Maude, Madonna (the original one, not the modern version!) and a mum from a 1988 annual.

It measures 21cms x 21cms, but there is extra border for framing.

Listing does not include a frame.

Not owning a car means I use public transport a lot. The amount of leaflets and magazines people leave behind on the trains, tubes and buses of London is amazing. It gives me a kick to make art out of things others discard. Not to mention being very eco-friendly.

I absolutely never print anything. My materials have already been printed by someone else, and then thrown away. I use the actual book, so some of these squares are pretty old.

I never use books which could otherwise be read, they must be in a sorry state before I will cut them.

Details for each individual square (giving credit to photographers etc...) are recorded on my blog, alisonsye.com, as there is not enough room here. I will start recording once this item is listed.

All of my work is individually numbered, this piece is 814.
