About Alison Aye Art

Alison Aye Art

Hi, I'm Alison, an eco-friendly collage artist, stitching found materials and vintage fabrics.

Welcome. Here you will find original art and limited edition museum quality giclee prints.

I make contemporary stitched collage, whilst respecting the traditional craft techniques of my mother and grandmothers, using discarded papers and clothes.

At the root of my art is my working class upbringing. A world of trade union banners, ‘nameless’ crafters and self-less women, in which most things were made and repaired rather than bought.

My methods are slow, not just the tiny hand-stitching, but also the recording of materials, which form an integral part of the process. Some pieces can take years to complete.

I have no staff, by the way. It's just me here, stitching away in my little corner of South London.

I was shortlisted for the Evening Standard Art Prize in 2018, the Brixton Art Prize in 2022 and featured on Joe Lycett: Summer Exhibitionist last year. It's still on the BBC iPlayer, if you fancy a laugh. I'm also a member of the 62 Group.

Follow me on Instagram for work in progress, provenance of materials, London photographs, contemporary art exhibition reviews and my dad's allotment.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get give me a shout, my social media links are below.

Thank you for dropping by,
Alison.
