Full description
Frida Kahlo doll diorama made to my own design. The body and limbs are machine stitched linen, the features are hand-embroidered and painted, and the limbs are jointed with mother of pearl buttons. Her hair is made from copious amounts of cotton/silk embroidery thread, stitched on and then painstakingly glued, piece by piece before being braided and arranged with intricately handcut, stiffened fabric dahlias with wired silk stamens. Her plaits are braided with pink ribbon and tied in a bow at the nape of her neck. She wears a white cotton and lace top with embroidered appliqued flowers, a full red skirt with applique flowers and a full length cotton petticoat edged in cotton lace. Her printed cotton rebozo (wrap) is lined with yellow cotton, hand stitched with cerise silk thread and edged in cerise satin. She has a ceramic, glass and rolled-paper bead necklace and 'gold' hoop earrings.
Her little parrot friend can balance on the easel. His ruffled chest feathers contrast nicely with his iridescent wing plumage and golden thread lined tail.
Frida comes with her own self portrait, monkey and a prickly pear cactus in a day of the dead style pot, all made from papier mache and clay. The easel was not made by me, its shop bought and stained darker.
Please ask if you'd like further images.
Thankyou!
