Hand Stitched quilt style fabric picture, 24 x 18cm, featuring a raised blue bird on an old patchwork background. The bird is made from blue cotton fabric which has a 'foiled' surface and a denim wing. The picture is bordered with complementary blue cotton patterned fabrics and embellished with a button, 'shisha' and decorative hand embroidery. The piece is backed with hand stitched cotton fabric and hoops for hanging. The colours may appear richer than in the photograph.

I had collected a selection of blue based fabrics including a piece of old blue and white patchwork which I decided to use for a background. I had been experimenting with using foils on fabrics and decided to use this to make a cheerful blue bird. The bird seemed much jollier after I had padded it slightly using kapok. It now stands proud from the surface along with the hand stitched embellishments.
