I hand dye the majority of my fabrics. To hand dye my fabrics, firstly I have to wash the fabric and dry it. Then I mix up the dyes individually and add then to the fabric separately. The dyes will merge into one another over the next 6 hours or so that I have to leave the dyes in order for them to take to the fabric. I usually do this overnight so that I am not tempted to look before they are done. I rinse out the fabric to get rid of the excess dye and then wash it again in the washing machine. Then depending on the weather is will line dry or tumble dry the fabric. It is now ready for me to work with.

Handmade Textile Violin
A wonderfully colourful and completely unique handmade textile violin, created from layers of beautiful fabrics and brought to life with intricate free machine embroidery and appliqué.
I’ve used a vibrant combination of silk and hand-dyed Egyptian cotton, carefully stitched together to create the violin’s richly patterned body. Every little detail has been built up with stitching, appliqué and carefully chosen embellishments, making this a truly one-of-a-kind piece of textile art.
The violin has four silver cord strings, along with a button on the back and eight tiny glass beads in silver and dark silver, adding extra detail and sparkle to the finished piece.
Although it looks like a violin, this is a decorative textile artwork rather than a musical instrument — perfect for hanging on a wall or displaying as an unusual and colourful piece of handmade art.
