This vintage British Minimax fire extinguisher has found a new role in life.
This colourful extinguisher was manufactured in the 1950's and has been upcycled into an unusual lamp. It would look good in any room and although obviously suited to an industrial or shabby chic interior it would also create a talking point in any setting, shop, cafe etc. Being 60 years old it obviously shows the signs of it's previous life. The surface has been cleaned and waxed to make it suitable for a domestic environment. It's size (85cm high, including bulb) makes it ideal as either a table or low floor lamp.
Base - made from hand turned hard wood that has been ebonized so the colour fits with the aesthetic of the piece. Ebonizing is an old technique that uses tea, vinegar and iron to permanently darken wood!
Flex - comes out of the back of the extinguisher near the base. It's british made with a cover of red silk, approx 2m long fitted with a standard UK plug (5amp fuse).
Bulb - the switched light fitting is attached via a hand turned hard wood mount that, again, has been ebonized. Supplied with an Edison 'squirrel cage' bulb that is consistent with the retro feel of the piece. However the lamp can also be used with a shade (not supplied) as the fitting includes a shade ring. Please note Edison bulbs get hot so do not handle when on.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have!
I wanted to give a classic British manufactured item a new lease of life.
