This quilt has been a pure joy to make. I've loved every minute of the quilting and design process. A real labour of love.
There is a repeat rose pattern in several varying colours, mustard through pink to red, grey and blues, going in diagonals across the quilt.
I designed several individual blocks from hares in barley, butterflies on roses, to swans with bees and stags with roses. Plus more hares!
Each block was printed in the same colour and although it looks like they were randomly placed, each one was given careful thought to the overall effect.
Each block was then machine stitched together.
A cotton polyester blend wadding was used in between the top and bottom layers of print. The reverse (bottom) layer was an all over rose print in the most beautiful mango orange colour.
Both layers were washed before stitching together to achieve the 'crumpled' vintage look. But it also helped to take away some of the ink smell which inevitably lingers once oil based inks are printed. Another wash and a good airing should see the smell go, possibly completely, but maybe some aroma will stay. But I have to say, I like this smell as it shows how it was made and gives it the handmade feel we all love.
The quilting is a lovely machine stitch diagonally along the Rose print.
Quilt will fit a kingsize/double bed amply. 221cm X 232 cm
