Welcome to Silver Birch Studio. My shop features a wide selection of handmade jewellery items, mainly in sterling silver with semi-precious stones. Copper and beaded jewellery are also featured. I have plenty of items in stock ready for immediate despatch.
This stone evokes the legend of White Buffalo woman who appeared to Lakota hunters at a time of great hardship and taught them how to lead a good life, before turning herself into a rare white buffalo calf. Following this event, the buffalo herds started to return and the people were able to survive and prosper.

Full description
This unique pendant features a large oval cabochon of white buffalo stone, also known as white buffalo turquoise. It is in fact a mixture of howlite and alumite. I bought it in New Mexico. It is valued by some Native Americans as a sacred symbol of survival and abundance. The background is creamy white, flecked with black and hints of a rusty red caused by the presence of iron oxide. The stone is mounted on a sterling silver setting which has been hammered to create a dimpled finish. Traditional silver hallmarks, including my own unique maker's mark, have been applied to the reverse side by the London Assay Office. The pendant hangs from a necklace of striped black agate and white howlite beads. There is a hand-made bar and ring clasp made from sterling silver.
