I came by this little set of drawers looking very sorry for itself. It was covered in wall paper, and had a roughly cut piece of MDF on the top. One of the drawers was jammed shut.
But...
It clearly had good 'bones'. Once I had stripped off the wallpaper,
I found that it was thickly painted underneath. So that also had to go. In the days when furniture was painted by default, manufacturers used mismatched wood, because it wasn't going to be seen anyway. This was one such piece.
I replaced the top with solid bamboo floorboards, which I cut to size.
I also replaced the drawer handles with little brass reproduction ones.

Set of three drawers suitable for use as a nightstand.
Previously part of a painted desk. Paint stripped off to reveal assorted woods: oak, Oregon pine, beech. New top made from solid bamboo floorboards (left over from a previous project). Woods all oiled for protection.
New brass look drawer handles.
