Traditional Japanese woodblock printing often uses imagery of a heron / crane. When I found this piece of wood I thought it looked like ripples in a pond, and decided to carve into it a heron to look as if it is flying above the water.

'Heron' Woodblockprint, 2015
The woodblock is made from ash wood, cut across the end grain to show the rings of the tree. I have used these to symbolise water and make it seem as if you are looking down at the heron from above flying over a pond.
Printed in an edition of 50.

Each print is individual so the print may vary slightly from the picture, but that is what makes them unique!
